To make a day of it

Schloss Seeburg (Münsing) stands in Münsing (Landkreis Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schloss Seeburg stands on the shore of Lake Starnberg, in the Weipertshausen district of Münsing. Built in 1889 for a Munich entrepreneur under the name Schloss Biberkor, its design is the work of Julius Hofmann, who had previously overseen the interior fittings of Neuschwanstein and Herrenchiemsee. The building has a castle-like appearance, with bay turrets, small towers and a keep, along with a private chapel. Ownership and use of the house changed several times during the twentieth century before it passed to the Bavarian state.

What to know

  • The Schloss is not a public museum: it is currently leased to a Christian organisation working with children and young people.
  • No opening hours or admission fees are published, since the building is not used as a visitor attraction.
  • The building stands directly on the shore of Lake Starnberg, so its exterior can be seen from the surrounding area.
  • The estate also includes a wooden boathouse and an enclosure with a small lighthouse flanked by two lions, both designed by Friedrich von Thiersch.
