Schloss Schierling stands in Schierling (Landkreis Regensburg), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.
Schloss Schierling stands on the site of a medieval moated castle, in the heart of the village of Schierling. Its present horseshoe-shaped courtyard combines a main building with medieval origins and wings added in the early eighteenth century, when the estate belonged to the Jesuit college of Straubing. A pond, a remnant of the moats that once surrounded the original stronghold, still lies near the building. Now privately owned, the complex can only be viewed from the outside.
What to know
- The castle is privately owned, so only the exterior of the buildings can be seen.
- No opening hours or admission fees are available, a visit means simply passing through the village of Schierling.
- The complex includes a main house, a barn and stables arranged around a horseshoe-shaped courtyard.
- A pond nearby is the only surviving trace of the former defensive moats.
- The former castle mill and brewery nearby round out the site but are likewise not open to visitors.
