The Schloss Rockenhausen stands in the town bearing its name, in the Donnersbergkreis district of Rhineland-Palatinate. Built between 1713 and 1738 as a three-wing complex with outbuildings including a cellar house, stables and a tithe barn, it occupies the site of an earlier stronghold, the Ruhenburg, which disappeared in the 17th century. The building was once surrounded by a water moat. Converted into a hotel following renovations in the early 2000s, it is today best appreciated from its surroundings, along the street that carries its name.
