To make a day of it

Schloss Planegg stands in Planegg (Landkreis München), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

Schloss Planegg stands a few kilometres southwest of Munich, on the banks of the Würm river. This former moated castle was the seat of the Hofmark of Planegg and remains to this day in the hands of the von Hirsch family, its last lords of the manor. The present baroque building largely dates from a 1737 expansion, though its onion-domed tower, built in rococo style and a local landmark, is thought to retain a medieval core. The surrounding park, reshaped as an English landscape garden after 1800, is not open to visitors.

  • The former castle brewery next to the park now serves as a storage facility for the LMU Munich university library.
