Schloss Ossenberg stands on the western bank of a former Rhine arm, in the Rheinberg district that bears its name. First recorded in 1176, the estate passed through several noble families before taking its present form in the early 18th century, when Count Karl Ludwig Truchseß von Waldburg had the old fortified house torn down and replaced by the château seen today. The Berghe von Trips family, who acquired it through marriage in 1857, still own it. A nearby chapel, rebuilt in the 18th century, also served as the family burial site and was shared for a time between Catholic and Protestant worship.
