Schloss Morstein stands on a rocky spur above the Jagst valley, on the edge of the hamlet of Morstein. The lords of Morstein built a medieval stronghold here in the 13th century, before the von Crailsheim family inherited it in the mid 14th century and has held it ever since. A fire in 1571 destroyed the residential building, which was rebuilt in Renaissance style with its distinctive stepped gable, while the medieval keep with its rusticated masonry and the round tower on the southern tip survive from the original structure. Protected by a double moat and reached via a stone bridge and a half timbered gate tower, the complex still shows a clearly readable defensive layout.
