Schloss Leonberg stands in Leonberg (Landkreis Böblingen), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Leonberg stands at the southwestern corner of the former town fortifications in Baden-Württemberg. Originally built as a castle under Count Ulrich I of Württemberg, it was converted between 1560 and 1570, under Duke Christoph, into the three-part residence still visible today: the main dwelling in the centre, the former stables to the east, and the granary to the west. Several widowed duchesses lived there, including Sibylla of Anhalt-Zerbst-Bernburg, who had an arcaded loggia added overlooking an Italian-style garden. The building now houses administrative offices and is not open as a museum.
What to know
- The building now houses administrative offices (a tax office and a courthouse), so there is no regular interior visit.
- Visitors can still view the facade, the courtyard and remains of the former garden from outside.
- The site is listed as a Kulturdenkmal in Germany.
- No opening hours or admission fees apply, as it is not a publicly visited monument.
- The old town of Leonberg, with its half-timbered market square, makes a good complement to a stop here.
