Schloss Kannawurf stands in Kannawurf, in the Landkreis Sömmerda, Thuringia, as a Renaissance ensemble of three wings arranged around a nearly square courtyard. Built from 1564 onward by Georg II. Vitzthum von Eckstedt on the site of a medieval moated castle, its design echoed the residence being built in Dresden at the time, where its patron served as a marshal. Visitors can still see a round tower set into a shield wall, dormers lining the roofline, and fragments of wall paintings depicting Ovid's Metamorphoses in the former reception rooms. Listed as a Kulturdenkmal in Germany, the site now hosts cultural events.
