To make a day of it
Schloss Jever stands in Jever (Landkreis Friesland), in Lower Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 14th century. Adult admission costs 8 EUR. Its opening hours and prices were verified at the source on October 17, 2026.
Schloss Jever stands on the site of a 14th century Frisian stronghold that became the seat of the lords of Jever and later a secondary residence of the Dukes of Oldenburg. Its round keep, capped in the 18th century with a Baroque dome, still dominates the small inner courtyard and serves as the town's landmark. Inside, a carved coffered ceiling from the Renaissance period, commissioned by regent Maria von Jever in the 16th century, is among the notable surviving features. Since 1921 the building has housed a museum devoted to its own history and to the former lordship of Jever, alongside changing exhibitions.
