To make a day of it

Schloss Iggenhausen stands in Lage (Kreis Lippe), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

Schloss Iggenhausen stands at the edge of Pottenhausen, a district of Lage, surrounded by a landscape park reaching down to the banks of the river Werre. It ranks among the oldest manor estates in the Lippe region, first recorded as an estate of Corvey Abbey as early as the ninth or tenth century. The present building, built in 1856 in neo-Gothic forms with classicist touches, is accompanied by a seventeenth-century chapel and an older half-timbered wing. The estate, still in the hands of the same family since the nineteenth century, is best appreciated from outside, through its park and outbuildings.

What to know

  • The landscape park, about two hectares in size, stretches down to the banks of the river Werre and can be walked through.
  • A seventeenth-century chapel and an older half-timbered house stand in the inner courtyard.
  • As no opening hours or fees are published, checking locally beforehand is advisable.
  • The site is listed as a Baudenkmal in North Rhine-Westphalia.
