Burg Vlotho is a medieval ruin standing on the Amtshausberg, a rocky ridge nearly a hundred metres above the Weser and overlooking the town of Vlotho. Built around 1250 as an administrative seat by Count Heinrich von Oldenburg, it was destroyed, rebuilt, and eventually dismantled stone by stone in the eighteenth century before being excavated and partly reconstructed between 1936 and 1939. Visitors today find a largely intact perimeter wall, the foundations of the former hall building, and a deep castle well, along with a terrace looking out over the Weser valley.
