To make a day of it
Fürstliches Residenzschloss Detmold stands in Detmold (Kreis Lippe), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Fürstliches Residenzschloss Detmold stands at the heart of the town, on the site of an earlier Burg first recorded in 1366. For centuries it served as the seat of the counts and later princes zur Lippe, and it is still inhabited today by the head of the House of Lippe. The present four-wing complex, built from the mid 16th century under master builder Jörg Unkair and his successors, is a notable example of Weser Renaissance architecture, with corner staircase towers surrounding the inner courtyard. Its asymmetrical main facade and the coat-of-arms frieze dated 1557 are among its most striking features.
