To make a day of it

Schloss Hartenstein stands in Hartenstein (Landkreis Zwickau), in Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schloss Hartenstein stands as a ruin on a rocky spur above the Thierfelder Bach, on the eastern edge of Hartenstein in Saxony. Founded around 1150 as an imperial stronghold, it was later turned into a noble residence by the Counts of Schönburg, who held it for centuries. Bombed in April 1945, the building lost the neo-Gothic profile it had acquired before the war, though its oval ground plan and parts of the inner castle survive, including a gateway bearing a Schönburg coat of arms dated 1530.
