Schloss Hagenburg, in Hagenburg within the Landkreis Schaumburg in Lower Saxony, stands on the site of a fortress first recorded in 1369, long associated with the House of Schaumburg-Lippe. The present L-shaped building largely dates from a late 18th-century remodelling commissioned by Princess Juliane of Hesse-Philippsthal, who intended it as a pleasure residence. Notable features include the timber-framed south wing bearing the date 1686, the stone main wing with its Tuscan-columned portico, and the Hagenburg canal linking the estate to Lake Steinhude. The surrounding landscape park, planted with swamp cypresses and rhododendrons, is open to visitors.
