To make a day of it

Schloss Eschelbronn stands in Eschelbronn (Rhein-Neckar-Kreis), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Schloss Eschelbronn survives today only as a memory, not as a building: this manorial estate, erected in the 18th century for the von Venningen family near Eschelbronn, in the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, Baden-Württemberg, was demolished in the late 1960s. It was in truth less a castle than a large seigneurial farmstead, with barns, stables, a wine press and a pond, surrounded by farmland and vineyards. On the site of its former courtyard now stands a community sports and cultural hall, which keeps the old estate's name alive.

What to know

  • The building no longer exists: it was demolished in the late 1960s and there is nothing to visit on site.
  • The former estate's grounds are now occupied by the Schlosshalle, Eschelbronn's community sports and cultural hall.
  • The castle's memory lives on in local names: the Schloßstraße, the Schlosssee pond, and the Schlosswiesenschule school.
  • It was originally a seigneurial farmstead rather than a grand castle, built for the von Venningen family.
