Schloss Burleswagen stands on a spur above the Jagst valley, near the hamlet of Burleswagen in the municipality of Satteldorf. Its origins trace back to a fortification likely built in Hohenstaufen times, in the second half of the 11th century, although the castle itself is first documented only in 1323, when King Louis the Bavarian granted it as an imperial fief to Werner von Burleswagen. Destroyed during the Thirty Years' War and later rebuilt, the property passed through many hands before becoming, since 1923, the private estate of the Thorban family.
