To make a day of it
Schloss Burgellern stands in Scheßlitz (Landkreis Bamberg), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Burgellern stands in Scheßlitz, in the Landkreis Bamberg, Bavaria, on the site of a medieval stronghold first recorded in 1342. The present building dates back to the residence built from 1726 for Marquard Wilhelm von Schönborn, dean of Bamberg's cathedral chapter, and was later reshaped in a classical style during the 19th century, gaining several rooms decorated with oriental murals and furniture. Used through the 20th century for purposes ranging from a maternity home to a lung sanatorium and a religious community, the castle was restored from 2005 onward and now operates as a hotel and restaurant. Its seven-hectare grounds include a baroque chapel housing the tombs of former owners and a 19th-century pump house.
