To make a day of it
Ruine Bussen stands in Uttenweiler (Landkreis Biberach), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Recorded dating: 10th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Ruine Bussen crowns the summit of the Bussen hill, at 767 metres, in Upper Swabia. Built toward the end of the 11th century, this former Staufer stronghold later held as a fief by the Truchsess von Waldburg family was destroyed by Swedish troops in 1633 during the Thirty Years' War. Only consolidated wall remains and the restored rectangular keep, 13 metres high and now used as a lookout tower, survive today. Next to the ruin stands the pilgrimage church of St John the Baptist, built in 1516.
