The Ruine Bachenstein occupies the site of a former hilltop Burg two kilometres west of Döttingen, a district of the municipality of Braunsbach. Built before 1250 by a minor noble family first called Bacho, later Bachenstein, the castle had already fallen into ruin when it was sold in 1488 to the Counts of Hohenlohe. Only two large ditches and scant remains of walls survive on the spur between the valleys of the Rüblinger Bach and the Bachensteiner Bach.
