Oldenburg (Marienmünster) stands in Marienmünster (Kreis Höxter), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 11th century. No visits are on record for this building.
The Oldenburg stands on a spur above Münsterbrock, a district of Marienmünster in eastern Westphalia. It was the ancestral seat of the counts of Schwalenberg, first recorded in 1116, before the family moved its main residence elsewhere around 1230, which is how the site came to be called simply the old castle. What remains today is a sturdy four-storey residential tower built after 1372 by Johann von Oeynhausen, with stone corner quoins and timber-framed gables. Around it, only traces of ditches and ramparts hint at the extent of the vanished medieval stronghold.
