To make a day of it

Naumburg stands in Ginsweiler (Landkreis Kusel), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Recorded dating: 11th century. No visits are on record for this building.

The Naumburg, also known as Ginsweiler, Neuenburg or Naumburger Hof, is a former hillside castle that has since vanished, located above the hamlet of Naumburger Hof near the village of Ginsweiler in Rhineland-Palatinate. It was built in the 12th century by the Counts of Veldenz to watch over the road coming from the upper Odenbach valley, and is first recorded in a document of 1223. Today only the shape of the spur on which it stood remains clearly visible, and a few Gothic stone fragments reused in a nearby farm building may come from the original structure.

What to know

  • No standing building remains, only the shape of the spur in the landscape hints at where the castle once stood.
  • The site lies in open countryside, with no known visitor facilities or marked trail.
  • A few Gothic stone fragments on a nearby farm building may be the only surviving physical traces of the castle.
  • No opening hours, fees, or set access route are documented, so a visit amounts to an informal walk to the site.
