The Burgruine Waldau stands as a ruin on a hilltop 451 metres high, near the hamlet of Waldau, part of Großdeinbach within the town of Schwäbisch Gmünd. Only a few sections of wall remain from the fortress, with no substantial standing structure. Recent research based on a dressed cornerstone and pottery dated to the 12th through 14th centuries places the origin of this spur castle in the period after 1150, during the Staufen era.
