To make a day of it

Burgruine Stollburg stands in Oberschwarzach (Landkreis Schweinfurt), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

On the ridge of the Stollberg, the highest point of the Franconian vineyards, stand the remains of a medieval hilltop castle built on a rocky spur and defended by four successive ditches. Founded probably in the 12th century by the lords of Stollberg, it was later donated to Ebrach Abbey and eventually passed to the Bishopric of Würzburg, before being burned down in 1525 during the Peasants' War. What remains today is an octagonal keep some fourteen metres high with walls up to two and a half metres thick, together with a few fragments of walls and vaulting and a half-buried cellar entrance.
