To make a day of it

Burgruine Gromberg stands in Lauchheim (Ostalbkreis), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Recorded dating: 11th century. No visits are on record for this building.

The Burgruine Gromberg stands in a forest northeast of Lauchheim, on a spur that once overlooked a trade route linking the Remstal to the Ries, now the course of the Bundesstraße 29. Built in the 11th century, it was the seat of the lords of Gromberg, vassals first of the Hohenstaufen and later of the counts of Oettingen, before being sold to Pfahlheim in 1378 and later belonging to the Teutonic Order's commandery at the nearby Kapfenburg. What remains today are moats, scant wall fragments and the base of a tower, modest traces to look for in the woods.
