Burg Schenkenstein stands in Aufhausen (Ostalbkreis), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Burg Schenkenstein stands in ruins on a rocky spur of the Schlossberg above the village of Aufhausen, part of Bopfingen. What remains of the medieval stronghold is chiefly a round keep, still standing to a considerable height, along with fragments of the surrounding walls, spread across an inner and an outer bailey. The site keeps the quiet, unrestored character of a ruin, with ditches and terraces still tracing the old line of defence. Just below the ruin lies an old Jewish cemetery, which gave the tower its former nickname, the Jews' tower.
What to know
- The site is an open-air ruin with no known opening hours or ticketing.
- Reaching it involves a climbing path up to the rocky spur, with some elevation gain.
- The round keep and wall remains can be viewed freely from the outside.
- The Jewish cemetery below forms part of the site and calls for a respectful visit.
- No details on visit duration, fees or accessibility are available, so allow flexible time and wear sturdy shoes.
