Burgberg stands in Baunatal (Landkreis Kassel), in Hesse, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.
The Burgberg is a wooded volcanic hill rising to 439.6 metres in the Langenberge range, next to Großenritte, a district of Baunatal. It carries the remains of a prehistoric circular rampart, the Wallburg of Großenritte, first settled around 6000 years ago and reoccupied during the Hallstatt culture between 800 and 400 BC. On its eastern slope once stood a hunting lodge built for Prince Heinrich von Hanau, later used from 1877 as a deaconess house; the building was torn down in 1972 and no longer exists. A visit today centres on the natural site and the traces of the old rampart.
What to know
