Burg Waldeser was a medieval stronghold that has since vanished, with no visible remains left on site. Built beside the Pelze near its confluence with the Mulde, in what is now the Middle Elbe biosphere reserve, it was first recorded in 1212 as the seat of the ministerial family von Waldeser. A flood of the Mulde, dated between 1314 and 1325, destroyed it, and its stones were used in 1341 to build the Dessau Schloss. There is nothing left to visit on site apart from the memory preserved in the name of the nearby district of Waldersee.
