Castle Rabenstein stands on a hilltop in the Fläming region of Brandenburg, at a spot where an old road between Wittenberg and Brandenburg an der Havel once crossed the river Plane. Built in the early 13th century to help control this crossing, it went through sieges, fires and a long succession of owners, from the von Oppen family to the dukes of Anhalt-Dessau. Its most striking feature is the round rubble-stone keep, about thirty metres high, alongside a main house and a gatehouse that was reworked in Baroque style in the 18th century. The inner courtyard still gathers several buildings from different periods, including a former stable now known as the knights' hall.
