To make a day of it

Burg Steinhausen stands in Korschenbroich (Rhein-Kreis Neuss), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

Burg Steinhausen no longer stands: the name now refers to the site of a former fortified manor house in the Steinhausen district of Korschenbroich. First recorded at the end of the 14th century as a knight's fief held under Liedberg, it once consisted of a courtyard enclosed by farm buildings with a main house on its northern side. The complex was gradually dismantled between around 1800 and the late 19th century, leaving only two earthen embankments that trace the former moat line. There is therefore no standing structure left to visit, only a field that preserves the outline of the old site.

What to know

  • No building has survived: only the ground plan of the former enclosure, marked by two embankments, remains.
  • The site covers an area of roughly 60 by 80 metres in the Steinhausen district.
  • This is not an organised visitor site, but an open piece of land.
  • There are no opening hours, fees or visitor facilities since the structure itself is gone.
