To make a day of it

Burg Sattelpeilnstein stands in Traitsching (Landkreis Cham), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

Burg Sattelpeilnstein sits on the wooded ridge of the Hohen Gockel above the village of Traitsching, in the Landkreis Cham. First recorded in 1180, it is thought to have been the original seat of the lords of Peilnstein before falling into ruin during the 15th century, after which their successors built a new castle lower down in the 16th century. Only scattered fragments of granite rubble walls survive today, lying within the protected nature reserve of the Schlossberg von Sattelpeilnstein. This is a destination for a quiet woodland walk to a modest ruin rather than a showcase of architecture.

What to know

  • No opening hours or admission fees are known, as the site appears freely accessible.
