To make a day of it

Burg Rodenstein stands in Fränkisch-Crumbach (Odenwaldkreis), in Hesse, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Burg Rodenstein stands as a ruin on a hillside of the Odenwald range, away from any village, in a side valley of the Gersprenz. Built around 1240 by the lords of Crumbach and Rodenstein as a rival stronghold to the Schloss Reichenberg, it still shows remains of its outer wall, a 14th century hall building and a tower known as the mill tower. Abandoned after the Rodenstein family died out following a plague outbreak in the 17th century, it was long quarried for building stone before becoming the ruin site visited today.
