To make a day of it
Burg Niederroßla stands in Niederroßla (Landkreis Weimarer Land), in Thuringia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Burg Niederroßla is a former moated castle raised in the 11th and 12th centuries on the banks of the Ilm river, in the Landkreis Weimarer Land in Thuringia. Its square keep, standing 57 metres high, is the tallest of its kind in Germany and remains the dominant feature of the site, even though the outer courtyard and gatehouse were torn down in 1947. Duke Ernst August of Saxe-Weimar had the medieval fortress reshaped into a baroque residence from 1738 onward. The building now serves as a community centre, which limits visits to the grounds and the tower.
