To make a day of it

Burg Kreuzau stands in Kreuzau (Kreis Düren), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

The Burg Kreuzau stands in Kreuzau, above the Rur river, on a site that may have already held a building in Roman times, close to the crossing point of an old Roman road. Its history spans centuries of changing owners, feudal disputes with the Dukes of Jülich, and a deliberate demolition in the 17th century by one of its own possessors during a conflict with his overlords. What remains today is a rectangular working farmyard built of rubble stone, still partly enclosed by dry moats, with a residential building dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. Damaged during the Second World War, the site was reduced to its ground floor and only rebuilt into its present form in the early 1970s.
