The Burg Kirnstein stands in ruins on a rocky spur overlooking the Inn valley, east of the Wildbarren, near Flintsbach am Inn. This medieval site preserves the remains of a square rubble-stone enclosure, with walls still rising to about eight metres in places. Traces of a vaulted gateway survive on the north side, along with hints of what may have been a residential wing to the south. Destroyed and rebuilt during the Middle Ages before falling into final ruin, the stronghold once controlled an old route through the narrow valley below.
