To make a day of it

Burg Frauenberg stands on a rocky spur above Bodman-Ludwigshafen, facing the ruined Altbodman castle. Built by the lords, later counts, of Bodman, it served as their family seat until a fatal fire in 1307, after which it was rebuilt as a Cistercian convent known as Kloster Frauenberg. The old castle chapel still holds Marian figures and a 15th-century Pietà. The property remains in the hands of the comital family and today houses a religious community.
