The site preserves traces of three outer ramparts and two ditches, still up to two metres deep in places, built using the rocky outcrops on its western side as natural defences. No written records explain its origins, and historians have proposed both a prehistoric refuge and a later post guarding an old route. The ruin lies along the Rodalber Felsenwanderweg hiking trail, which is the main reason visitors pass by.
