Burg Burguffeln refers to a former fortified site in the Burguffeln district of Grebenstein, first traceable to the 9th century through a document from Fulda Abbey naming the place Ufelohun. Part of the medieval residence survives, including a street-facing wing with a masonry ground floor, a timber-framed upper storey and nine dormer windows. The stronghold itself lost its defensive role long ago: its former chamber building gave way, as early as the 10th century, to the Gothic St Margareta church, while the rest of the estate became a state-run agricultural domain in the 18th century under Landgrave Friedrich II of Hesse.
