To make a day of it

Burg Binsförth stands in Binsförth (Schwalm-Eder-Kreis), in Hesse, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Burg Binsförth survives only as fragments of medieval walls embedded in a farmstead at the eastern edge of the village of Binsförth, in Hesse. The small fortified building once guarded a ford across the Fulda river, close to the parish church. Imperial troops destroyed it in 1637 during the Thirty Years' War, and it was never rebuilt. The property, now a working farm, still has a half timbered house dating from the 16th century and a coat of arms stone from 1692.

What to know

  • The site lies on a privately run farm, the Rittergut Binsförth, today managed as an organic holding.
  • Only sections of medieval walls remain, incorporated into the existing farm buildings and best viewed from outside.
  • The timber framed house on site dates from the late 16th century and bears a coat of arms stone from 1692.
  • No opening hours, admission fees, or organised visits are documented, since the place functions as a working farm.
