To make a day of it

Bruchhof stands in Stadthagen (Landkreis Schaumburg), in Lower Saxony, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

The Bruchhof stands in Stadthagen, in the Landkreis Schaumburg, in Lower Saxony. It is the oldest known manorial seat in the district, first recorded in 1115 in connection with its chapel. The present building, dating mainly from the 18th to the 20th century, rests on older masonry that was identified in 2008 as the remains of a late medieval tower, later altered during the Renaissance. The grounds can still be recognised today as a raised platform surrounded by a dry moat, now converted after restoration into a café and event venue.

What to know

  • The site today operates as a café and event venue rather than as a conventional monument open for touring.
  • No opening hours or admission fees are available in the verified information.
  • The moat surrounding the raised platform is now dry, and the medieval tower itself is no longer visible above ground, its masonry having only been rediscovered during works in 2008.
  • This is a modest exterior site rather than a dramatic fortress, best considered as a complement to a visit around Stadthagen.
