To make a day of it

Schloss Petershagen stands in Petershagen (Kreis Minden-Lübbecke), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Schloss Petershagen stands where the Ösper meets the Weser, on the site of a fortified residence founded by the bishops of Minden in the early fourteenth century. Its present form dates largely from a mid sixteenth century rebuilding that turned the stronghold into an early example of Weser Renaissance architecture, combining dark Porta sandstone with lighter stone from Obernkirchen. A polygonal stair tower in the courtyard still carries the carved coats of arms of the lords who shaped the building over time. Once an episcopal residence and later a seat of regional government, the Schloss has since served many purposes, including decades as a hotel.
