Bodendenkmal in Weng (Isar), #D-2-7340-0231 stands in Weng (Landkreis Landshut), in Bavaria, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Burgstall Weng is the archaeological remnant of a vanished castle, sometimes called Moosweng, located away from the village of Weng in Bavaria. No standing structure survives today: the site consists of a rounded mound about fifty metres across, surrounded by a wide ditch, with the traces of an outer bailey extending to the east, marked by a low earthen rampart. Grass and, in places, woodland now cover the area, though the shape of the former motte and its moat can still be read in the ground. The castle is first documented in 1364, long before it fell into ruin.
What to know
- There is no standing building to see here, only earthworks (a mound, ditches, a low rampart) marking the former castle site.
- The site lies roughly 650 metres south of the present Schloss Weng and over a kilometre from St Peter's church in Weng.
- The ground is partly wooded and partly grassy, so suitable footwear for uneven, sometimes damp terrain is advisable.
- No information on protection status, opening times or admission fees is available for this site.
