The Turmhügel Vogelsang site sits on a narrow spur tip at Mengkofen, in Lower Bavaria. It is a medieval mound shaped like a cone, roughly five metres high, with a flattened top about twenty metres across. A curved, deep ditch separates it from the gradually rising ground behind, and continues as a narrow terrace running around the mound's slope. No structure survives above ground today: it is the shape of the land itself that preserves the memory of this former fortification.
