Schloss Poxau stands on a rise within the municipality of Marklkofen, in Lower Bavaria, forming a closed courtyard with a pentagonal layout shaped by the terrain. The present buildings, three storeys under hipped roofs, largely date from a reconstruction following the devastation of the Thirty Years' War, though sections of wall in the northwest go back to the first half of the 16th century. A chapel dedicated to Charles Borromeo survives in the southeast wing, its ridge turret set above the gateway, alongside an inner courtyard lined with arcades and pilasters. The site served for decades as a convent and school before returning to the owning family.
