To make a day of it

Bodendenkmal in Marklkofen, #D-2-7441-0031 stands in Marklkofen (Landkreis Dingolfing-Landau), in Bavaria, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

This site marks the former location of a motte, an artificial earthen mound that once carried a wooden or stone tower, long since vanished. It lies in Marklkofen, in the hamlet of Weiher, just north of the village and roughly 900 metres south of the Vils river. Historical Bavarian land surveys still recorded a circular mound about eleven metres across, but the ground has since levelled out and no visible trace of the medieval fortification remains. It survives only as an archaeological record, listed as a Bodendenkmal, rather than as a castle one can actually visit.
