The Schloss Hofdorf once stood at Mengkofen in Bavaria, on a site now recorded as a buried archaeological monument. Nothing of the structure remains above ground: the moated manor house, known from an engraving by Michael Wening dated 1726, has vanished, and the ground it occupied is now a slightly raised, cultivated plateau. What can still be made out on the spot are traces of the surrounding moat, visible in places as a shallow depression in the terrain, particularly along the eastern and southern edges of the plot. This is not a monument to visit in the usual sense, but a site of archaeological interest.

What to know

No building remains to see: only the shape of the ground reveals where the former castle once stood.
The site lies on private farmland, close to the Sankt Margareta church in Hofdorf.
There are no opening hours, fees or visitor facilities, as this is not a developed tourist site.
Traces of the moat that once surrounded the castle are best seen on the eastern and southern sides of the plateau.
A visit is limited to viewing the area from nearby, with no organized access onto the land itself.
