To make a day of it
Birg (Hohenschäftlarn) stands in Baierbrunn (Landkreis München), in Bavaria, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Birg is a former fortified enclosure overlooking the Isar valley in the municipality of Baierbrunn, near the parish church of Hohenschäftlarn. Today the site survives as an earthwork: ramparts and a scarp ditch still trace the outline of a double-banked stronghold designed to obstruct mounted attackers. Archaeologists interpret it as an early medieval refuge built against Hungarian raids of the 10th century, likely serving the nearby Schäftlarn monastery and the surrounding rural population. No trace of buildings has been found on the flat summit plateau, consistent with its use as a gathering point and place of refuge rather than a permanent settlement.
