Château Vieux de Candes stands in Candes-Saint-Martin (Indre-et-Loire), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 15th century, second quarter of the 16th century, 17th century). What the French Ministry of Culture records
Candes était le siège d'une châtellenie appartenant aux archevêques de Tours. Le château, autrefois fortifié, leur servait de résidence d'été. Il fut commencé en 1485 par Robert de Lenoncourt, et achevé en 1520 et 1527 par l'archevêque Martin de Beaune. Dans le château primitif, en 1446, furent jugés et exécutés les complices de Louis XI dauphin qui conspira contre son père pour s'emparer du pouvoir. L'édifice comprend deux corps de bâtiments, dont un en retour d'équerre. Dans l'angle formé par les deux bâtiments est logée une tour polygonale d'escalier. Le grand portail d'entrée, en recul dans un hémicycle, est accompagné d'une petite porte de part et d'autre. Il est presque en plein cintre, surmonté d'un fronton en arc surbaissé. De chaque côté, des piliers à joints creux sont ornés de pilastres plats. Les communs limitent la cour côté nord. Subsistent également quelques ouvertures du 15e siècle, les autres étant du 18e siècle. A l'arrière, au nord du château, galerie couverte dont la rembarde en pierre supporte des piliers de bois avec jambes de force.
