On the hill overlooking Cannes' old town stands a medieval group made up of an 11th-century watchtower, the Sainte-Anne chapel and the Notre-Dame-de-l'Espérance church. The Suquet tower, a remnant of the fortified castrum built by the monks of Lérins, gives a view over the bay and the nearby islands from its top. This is the oldest district of the city, which lent the site its name.
