To make a day of it

Château du Sauvement stands in Ciry-le-Noble (Saône-et-Loire), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century, 16th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

In Ciry-le-Noble, in the Saône-et-Loire department, the Château du Sauvement rises on a hillside, its fortified outline still visible from a distance. Its origins go back to the 13th century, when it served as the seat of a Charolais lordship, though the building seen today largely dates from the 16th century, after the original stronghold was torn down on the orders of Louis XI. Its gatehouse tower, flanked by carved pilasters, and its round corner towers under tiled roofs recall its past as a defensive stronghold later turned into a noble residence. The estate remains privately owned and is not open to visitors.
