Château du Rocher-Portail stands in Maen Roch (Ille-et-Vilaine), in the Bretagne region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 17th century). Adult admission costs 29 EUR. Its opening hours and prices were verified at the source on September 3, 2026.
Set beside a pond in the Coglais area, the château du Rocher-Portail displays three ranges of buildings under steep roofs, built between 1586 and 1607 for Gilles de Ruellan, a close associate of Henri IV. Its courtyard opens onto an arcaded gallery with fluted pilasters in an Italian Renaissance style, while a chapel fitted with gun loops extends one of the wings. Inside, much of the original furniture survives, including a lord's chamber with a painted ceiling and a monumental fireplace. A hidden passage, uncovered during 2016 restoration work, recalls how a leader of the Breton royalist conspiracy took refuge here in 1792.
